    Discussion sur L'Art poétique

Il est certains esprits dont les sombres pensées
    Sont, d'un nuage épais, toujours embarrassées ;

    BDD: the future

Here is some interesting information about the BDD I want to share with you. Source: Roadmap presented by M. Niehaus (Microsoft)

New versions of the BDD will be introduced in waves:

"deployment 4" - currently under development
    "deployment 5" - development starts late 2008

There will be multiple "releases" within each "wave".
Naming is still under discussion (Windows Server Deployment? BDD 2008? Deployment 4?)

    Scope "D4":
    • Supports existing technologies (WDS, SMS 2003)
    • Simple Migration path to SCCM (LTI and ZTI)
    • Advanced Windows 2003/2008 Server deployment (fixed IP, advanced disk config, OS role, Hydration)

    Integration with SCCM 2007:

    • Single interface (no more workbench, SCCM MMC)
    • New wizards, actions and nodes
    • Task sequence-based engine is everywhere
    • Pre-built Task Sequences and "snippets" (partial tasks sequences) are added
    • Data-driven deployments based on variables (still supprts DB and customsettings.ini)

    Timeline:

    Q3 2007: initial SCCM support

    Q4 2007: Beta support for Windows 2008 (release 1)

    H1 2008: support for SCCM SP1 (release 2)

Manual copy of packages to DP

After you manually copy the packages to the DP, the utility (Package Preloader Tool, see http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sms/2003/downloads/tools/toolkit.mspx ) must be run on the DP in order to update the SMS db. Please read the SMS 2003 Toolkit 2 CHM file for detailed info.

    SCCM 2007 and SCOM 2007

    Hello!

I just attended a Microsoft hands-on learning session for SCOM 2007 and SCCM 2007 and wow - these products rock!

My top 6 new features for SCCM 2007:
    5. NAP/NAC integration
    4. Integration with WSUS 3.0
    3. Integartion with Windows Deployment Services - SSCM is THE way to deploy Windows Vista and Longhorn (Server 2008 I mean...)
    2. GUI improvements (faster, drag and drop, better organised...)
    1. Easier setup and installation - kiss those deployment issues goodbye
    And the best one is...
    0. Branch Office DPs - using http BITS to manage traffic to those remote DPs, kiss those secondary sites goodbye!

Wanted in the next SCCM version:
    1. Integration with SQL Reporting Services - not just a reporting point, but a true repository.
    2. True Powershell integration
    3. True SoftGrid integration

All in all, SSCM 2007 looks like a very impressive release from Microsoft.

    Hydrating Windows Servers

Ever wanted to auto-provision a full test server with AD, SMS and all those marvelous products like BizTalk?
Well, I stumbled on this very interesting "Hydration" application while reading the Desktop Deployment Planning Services Guide:

"Hydration is a conglomeration of scripts that will build-out an entire infrastructure on a single server in an unattended manner.  All you need to do is gather the needed software and then use the supplied HTML applications (.HTA’s) that walk you through the two main processes.

The current version of Hydration builds a single server with the following components: Active Directory Domain Controller, DHCP, DNS, WINS, IIS, SQL Server 2005, SMS 2003, SMS 2003 OSD Feature Pack, BDD 2007, MOM Server 2005, MOM Server 2005 Reporting, BizTalk Server 2006, Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, USMT 3.0, and Visual Studio 2005."

This could make my life sooooo easier. Yep, I'll try this and see if it really works...
